SJR941-1
The major characteristics of this
selection are the firmness, large fruit size and long shelf life at room temperature
(20°C)
- Description:
Late summer-fruiting selection.
Young shoots are very densely covered with small purplish-brown prickles. New shoots are
covered with bloom wax and moderately hairy displaying a dropping habit. The leaves are
slightly but noticeably rough-surfaced between veins and are dull light green in color.
The leaves have 5 leaflets on the lower two third of a shoot and 3 on the topmost third.
Flowering season on shoots from the previous year is late; the flowers are quite small.
Fruit-bearing branches are fairly short. The fruits are dull medium red in color, quite
large, fairly firm, longer than broad, quite hairy and quite easily detachable from their
receptacle.
- Important
characteristics:
Less sweet that the other
selections but comparable to the control "Festival"; more sweet than other
control varieties. At 20°C, the fruits keep 1-2 days less than the other selections and
controls, deteriorating sooner and losing substantial quantities of
juice. Less firm than
the other selections but firmer than Boyne Festival, Killarney and Nova
varieties.
